IKO is a pioneer and leader in the global roofing and related products industry.

The company was founded in 1951. It first manufactured building paper and then expanded to include coated roll roofing. Its first asphalt shingle was made in 1954, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The company thrived and grew, first establishing itself in eastern Canada with the opening of the Brampton, Ontario, shingle plant in 1959. Success in Brampton led to further expansion, next into the European market with the construction of a shingle plant in Ham, Belgium, in 1972. Expansion continued in Canada, with the addition of a new facility in Hawkesbury, Ontario, in 1976.

IKO entered the U.S. marketplace in 1979 through various acquisitions and has since expanded its presence by building new plants across North America. The most recent plants to open were in Hillsboro, Texas and Hagerstown, Maryland.

In all of its plants, IKO implements a program of continuous improvement that includes updating equipment and refining systems and processes in order to maximize efficiency and productivity, reduce waste and enhance performance and safety.

Isothermal Protective Coatings, Inc. (IPC) was founded in 1981 by Gary Hollingshead (an organic chemist), his wife Ruth and a few investors. The founders pursued a cost-effective product that could be used to coat weather-worn roofs to repair leaks and prevent the exorbitant costs of replacing entire roofs.

In the 1990s, IPC developed additional products that also addressed the needs of the commercial roofing market. These new solutions allowed IPC to expand how it positively served clients, while eliminating the time, money and landfill burden of re-roofing.

In 2019, the Hollingsheads sold IPC to Jocelyn and Derron Cook, who now serve at the helm of this innovative, small business. The new leaders have invigorated IPC with a growth mindset while nurturing its culture for artisan craftmanship. Today, IPC remains committed to producing exceptional roofing products that are backed by the most comprehensive systems warranties in the industry to include up to 2-inch hail resistance.

As a family-run business, IPC remains at its original location in Pearland, Texas and works with roofing experts across the United States. Those interested in learning more about IPC and how its products can be used to address a whole host of commercial roofing needs are encouraged to contact IPC for a conversation with one of their industry experts.
